A historic building with a new purpose — serving Winder and Barrow County since 2016.
The Wimberly Center for Community Development is housed in the historic former Winder-Barrow Middle School at 163 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Winder, Georgia — a building that has shaped generations of Barrow County families.
In 2016, Winder was recognized as a USDA Local Foods, Local Places community. That designation sparked a commitment to food access, sustainability, and hands-on education that breathed new life into this beloved building.
Today, the Wimberly Center operates as a collaborative hub — bringing together nonprofits, community organizations, and service providers to serve residents across Winder, Barrow County, and Northeast Georgia.
We believe that when people have access to food, education, and each other, communities thrive.
Operating in a USDA-designated food desert, we work to make fresh, nutritious food accessible to every Winder family through gardens, kitchens, and education.
From cooking demonstrations to gardening workshops to faith-based classes, we empower community members with skills that last a lifetime.
We house multiple service providers and nonprofits, creating a network of support that multiplies our collective impact for Barrow County residents.
The Wimberly Center is home to multiple organizations all working toward a stronger Winder.
