Our Mission & Purpose

At Wimberly's Roots, we empower Winder and Barrow County with hands-on gardening, healthy cooking, and nutrition know-how — making fresh food accessible for everyone.

By teaming up with local farmers, chefs, educators, and volunteers, we turn seeds into skills, meals into memories, and food insecurity into opportunity.

We operate in a USDA-designated food desert, serving Winder, Barrow County, and Northeast Georgia.

Our Roots

From Farm to Fork, Fighting Food Insecurity

Our farm-to-fork mission starts in the surrounding gardens and blossoms into kitchens and classrooms.

Born from the transformation of the historic Winder-Barrow Middle School into the Wimberly Center for Community Development, our programs grew from Winder's recognition as a Local Foods, Local Places community — sparking a commitment to food access, sustainability, and hands-on education in 2016.

Today, we teach hands-on healthy eating skills and empower our community to make nutritious choices every day. We leverage the skills and expertise of dedicated volunteers, local farmers, chefs, nutritionists, educators, and other professionals to support these efforts.
